Getting to Know Us

The Immunize LA Kids Coalition was formed in 1999 with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health Initiative --REACH 2010. We are part of South Los Angeles Health Projects, the community-based unit of the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (www.labiomed.org). Our mission is to link public and private agencies, providers, and the community to collectively develop, implement, and support strategies to improve immunization up-to-date rates among Latino and African American children. We accomplish this through community outreach and education, provider education, collaboration and lasting partnerships. Since 1999, the following organizations have conducted community outreach and education on behalf of our Coalition: Clinica Monseņor Oscar A. Romero, Esperanza Community Housing Corporation/Rescatando Salud, INMED/MotherNet LA, and T.H.E. (To Help Everyone) Clinic. Review our Coalition Member List to learn which individuals and organizations are working together with Immunize LA Kids.

Together with our partners, we are helping to reduce immunization disparities in a number of cities and communities in South Los Angeles. Our culturally relevant interventions are evidence-based and address local barriers to immunization.

  • An Immunization Practices Enhancement Team has strengthened pediatric immunization practices in private physician offices through ongoing resources and support.

  • Community health promoters conduct outreach with parents and guardians of children.

  • We provide immunization education and referrals to tens of thousands of parents receiving services in WIC centers in South Los Angeles.

  • We participate in health fairs, distribute culturally appropriate immunization materials, and conduct media activities.
